Aegon Asset Management – Global Controls & MI Lead
Our client, a global Asset Manager based in Edinburgh, are looking to hire a controls specialist to join the growing Global Controls & MI function. As a Global Controls & MI Lead, you will work to ensure that a sufficiently robust control environment is in place across the global business. This is a newly created role and will support a Senior Manager to ensure that control objectives are being met and are able to be evidenced; this will involve assurance, correction, protection and innovation type activities.
As a Controls & MI Lead, you will have strong customer focus and stakeholder management skills. You will have excellent teamwork, collaboration, interpersonal, organisational and relationship management skills. You will be able to balance Business As Usual (BAU) with project work and have the ability to proactively manage your own workload and that of those who you task-manage and, you must be able to multi-task within an evolving global environment and work collaboratively with colleagues of all nationalities.
Responsibilities will include:
• Documenting financial / accounting / actuarial process flows, with a focus on internal controls and Sarbanes-Oxley and Solvency II compliance.
• Evaluate and review the design of internal controls and make recommendations for improvement escalating issues as appropriate.
• Assess the existence and operating effectiveness of internal controls escalating issues as appropriate.
• Manage the execution of management’s SOX risk assessment and scoping activities to ensure proper risk identification, process mapping and controls linkage for a sustainable internal control framework.
• Preparation of controls reporting (AAF, ISAE, SOC1).
• Work with external auditors to plan and implement an assessment of the control environment, coordination of timing and execution of process walkthroughs, and a process for timely sharing of potential issues for resolution with respect to internal controls.
• Provide technical guidance for Officers / Analysts within the team.
• Provide day to day oversight, work allocations and task management of Officers / Analysts within the team.
• Assist in the development and implementation of goals, policies, priorities and procedures relating to internal controls over financial reporting and SOX.
• Collaborate with the first line in development of action plans to assess the adequacy of action taken by management to correct reporting deficient conditions, accepting adequate corrective action and continuing reviews with appropriate management on action considered inadequate until satisfactory resolution.
• Collaborate with the second line to capture and track control deficiencies as well as internal and external audit finding to resolution.
• Engage the second line in testing the design and operating effectiveness of internal control over financial reporting.
To be successful in the role, candidates are expected, as a minimum, to have:
• Understanding of financial markets, financial instruments and financial regulations is essential and a professional qualification in the area of investments especially operations is desirable.
• Strong controls and process experience.
• First-rate organisation, administration, time management and deadline management skills.
• Excellent communication and team working skills with an ability to collaborate and work virtually across regions and all levels of the organisation.
• Capable of critical thinking with a questioning nature and proficient at making connections between information and data.
• Experience in data analysis, dashboards and reporting preferred.
