Our client, a Big 4 advisory and consulting firm, is growing its Markets Monitoring and Surveillance advisory and analytics team in the UK, in response to unprecedented demand from their Banking and Capital Markets clients.

The team focuses on supporting financial services clients with the aim of effectively monitoring for misconduct and market abuse across their firm, helping them to guard against trading losses, reputational damage and fines. The problem is complex, and requires new ways of thinking about and combining data, technology and operations.

The team is a mix of ex-Bankers, ex-Traders, Big 4 trained consultants, technology consultants, ex technology vendors and data specialists. They work with the firm’s most important banking and investment clients to help them assess and enhance their supervision and surveillance functions from regulatory, data, technology and operations perspectives.

They are looking to bring in a Senior Manager to the team. At this level, you will be expected to manage and help develop a team of junior resources while managing client engagements, as well as being involved in business development and sales opportunities as an expert in the surveillance industry. The role could be based anywhere in the UK but London or Edinburgh would be preferred locations.

The role will involve, tasks such as:

Managing teams of consultants and client personnel to complete a range of projects, such as:
– Risk and coverage assessments of supervision and surveillance functions.
– Effectiveness reviews and benchmarking of supervision and surveillance functions.
– Reviewing effectiveness of automated surveillance technology.
– Designing and embedding new operating models for improved surveillance in our clients' organisations.
– Supporting vendor selection and implementation of either Deloitte's or third party technologies for our clients.
Providing thought leadership as a surveillance expert on the design and development of new surveillance technology solutions and methodologies.
Developing and sustaining new client relationships.
Developing new surveillance-related propositions and technology solutions and taking them to market.
Managing the planning and staffing projects for clients based on complex deliverables and programmes of work.
Head the development of client bids and presentations of proposals.

To be successful in the role, candidates need to have the following experience and skills:

Deep sector-specific expertise and business understanding gained in banking or capital markets.
Excellent understanding around the themes of misconduct and market abuse, and insight into how these are monitored.
A understanding of the technology landscape – key players, key trends, limitations, what the future looks like.
Possibly gained from working in front office supervision or surveillance functions or in trading environments at large financial services firms.
Big 4 or consultancy firm experience is would be ideal but not essential.
An understanding of relevant regulation and the associated surveillance impacts.
The ability to work in many different environments.
Communication, presentation, business writing and professional skills, including being able to liaise with both technical and business contacts at our clients.
